Abstract:

Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems (IVHS) offer to improve the efficiency and safety of driving by means of an amalgamation of information technology with vehicles and highways. The recent acceleration of IVHS development in the United States has resulted from a number of converging forces and has given rise to a number of policy issues, which have both public and private, domestic and international implications. The resolution of these issues will probably have significant impacts on both the automotive industry and the infrastructure that supports automotive transportation around the world.
