Meeting the near-term challenge for power plants

Multidimensional challenges to the science and technology of the present energy economy and ecology continue to emerge. This paper focuses on near-term challenges facing the utility industry and its egineers in accommodating to the realities of environmental, resource, and institutional constraints. It explores technological opportunities to maximize the value of past investments in meeting societal demands as well as the likelihood of finding new systems and synergies that can contribute to a healthy industry in the changing business climate in the years ahead.
