The concurrent movements toward foreign sourcing and just-in-time manufacturing by U.S. manufacturers is intriguing in view of the ‘theoretical’ incompatibility of these strategies. This article examines the effects of foreign sourcing on JIT manufacturing and explores compatibility issues through an empirical study of three U.S. firms.
