After analyzing the shortcoming of existing methods on determining the index weight, a method is presented on the basis of an ideal optimization scheme. Using optimization theory a mathematical model which optimizes the squared separation of projects being evaluated and an ideal optimization scheme is established. The exact solution has been found and an example shows the validity of this method.
