Having students adequately trained to understand and manage the production challenges they will face in the work environment is an important goal. Practitioners can help by opening their factory and service operations to students and encouraging them to become involved and interested in actual work settings. If the two worlds of the academic community and the actual POM work environment can better understand each other’s problems and needs, the information loop between them can be closed.
