Abstract:

This APICS prize-winning paper by three graduate students describes some distinct new ways to look at manufacturing. It focuses on two essential support mechanisms: a JIT production strategy and the innovative policies one company established to implement it. Traditional managerial accounting and vendor relations are often detrimental to the performance and effectiveness of a JIT manufacturing system. Here the complex formalities of cost accounting were put aside, and vendor relations were built from trust.
