This is an extended abstract of a paper that was finalist in the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Society's 2002 Student Paper Competition. Using detailed data on forecast sharing and order fulfillment from a semiconductor equipment supply chain, it was discovered that the sharing of inflated, risky and/or volatile forecast can lead to degraded performance from the perspective of both the buyer and supplier.
