Controlling the flow of material through the factory is a necessary prerequisite for a JIT operating environment. Conventional MRP II software, in conjunction with an automated pick-list subsystem, can help facilitate the flow at the source-the stockroom-at the time of order release. The system design described was developed for a government contractor. The article details the functional requirements for an automated pick-list system and how it can aid a current MRP user to move towards JIT.
