When designing an inventory system, major elements to be taken into account are appropriate cycle rate, limiting suppliers, shop-floor control, just-in-time production, material requirements planning, accountability, training and feedback, proper tools, cycle counting, and transaction audits. The model developed here was used to evaluate the finished-goods inventory system at Westinghouse Electrical Systems Division.
