There have been many lot-sizing techniques presented for the single-item, deterministic, time-varying-demand periodic inventory problem. In this article the authors evaluate in several ways ten common approximate lot-sizing techniques. Part-period balancing, Groff’s marginal cost approach, and Silver-Meal perform best by all measures over most data sets.
