An aerospace and defense assembly plant used the two-bin method described in this article to effectively control floor stock inventory. The system provides coverage for 50% of all inventory items, e.g., all Class C parts. Among the benefits of this method are minimal materials handling, perpetual supply of low-value parts, maintenance of product cost tracking in an A&D environment, and accurate control of inventory for parts affected.
