This paper examines the conditions under which discounting effects should be considered in modeling inventory systems. Four classical inventory models were considered: basic EOQ, finite production rate, backorder, and general. The results indicate that the significance of the discounting effects depends on the parametric values in the first two models; whereas the discounting effects are significant regardless of the parametric values in the last two models.
