Combining qualitative and quantitative analyses in facility layout

The vast majority of computerised facility layout routines currently in use are either of a qualitative nature utilising interdepartmental closeness ratings, or of a quantitative nature based on minimising material handling costs. This article illustrated how both of these aspects can be integrated in facility layout planning, and how existing routines can be used to do this type of multiple-criteria analysis.
