Scheduling hybrid production with a buffer using a genetic algorithm

This paper presents a scheduling model for a kind of hybrid production process. An effective scheduling method is presented, which gives a schedule for continuous production lines which produce the buffer stocks needed in discrete production process. Then the scheduling for discrete production line is obtained by the combination of genetic algorithm and dispatch rule. The simulation of an actual example indicates that the method is effective.
