The assessment of corporate investment projects will have to take account of environmental regulations more thoroughly in the near future. In this contribution we present an approach which allows an optimal allocation of investments in production and emission reduction equipment based on an activity-analytical modelling of mass and energy flows. A case study from the steel industry demonstrates how future investment planning, taking into account relevant environmental goals, can be carried out.
