Abstract:

The paper makes a case for more communication between production and inventory managers and strategists. In particular, it suggests that a full assessment of the competitive forces that underlie a company’s industry and a knowledge of its own and its competitors’ basic strategies should be important considerations in demand management, resource planning, and production planning. Industry analysis should be at the front end of the MRP-II flow chart.
