The optimal signal set problem has been formulated as a nonlinear programming problem by Gockenbach and Kearsley and used by Lawrence. In this paper, we describe how this engineering design problem can be formulated as a semi-infinite programming (SIP) problem, solved by a discretization method, and coded in a SIPAMPL environment which is freely available. A brief introduction to semi-infinite programming and optimality conditions are presented.
