In this paper after basic multi-state systems defining and their reliability functions fixing the classes of possible limit reliability functions for series, parallel, series–parallel and parallel–series non-homogeneous systems are given. Next, multi-state systems with components having exponential reliability functions with different transition rates between subsets of their states are completely considered and their asymptotic reliability functions are fixed. Some applications of the results to reliability and risk evaluation of real technical systems are presented as well.
