The concepts of absolute ideal point and relative ideal point are introduced. It is pointed out that rank reversal in the deviation method of minimum subordinate and the improved minimum distance method is the result of using relative ideal points. It is proved if using absolute ideal point, the two methods mentioned above are strongly rank preserving, so there will not exist any rank reversal in them.
