Top management of a number of companies preach just-in-time manufacturing but very few practice it, particularly when it comes to procurement. This article shows a method of arriving at the procurement price per unit at which an overseas source of supply would be as attractive as a domestic source, taking into account quality of supplies, design uncertainties, forecast uncertainties, and procurement lead time.
