Planning and control of intermittent job shop operations is viewed as part of an integrated production management system. The system of structural control is directed to inventory and the elements of the bill of materials. Functional control, on the other hand, is decentralised time-phased operational departmental job shop control. The integrated task management method described here controls operations into integrated tasks which represent departmental operational work orders; along with functional management, it is the better system for JIT applications.
