MRP, synchronized manufacturing, and JIT/kanban are often compared; this article views the approaches more as complementary. Two cases are presented to illustrate that the key success factor in all three is bottleneck management. Synchronized manufacturing is a concept introduced by Goldratt which is more generally described as constraint theory, as explained in this article.
