The configuration of a complementary judgement matrix and methods of solving it were studied. The complementary judgement matrix was configured and its scaling rules were given on the basis of the concept of ‘cheng’, which is the Chinese word for tenth. A method of solving such a type of judgement matrix was deduced by comparing it with reciprocal judgement matrix. After comparing the results of these two types, an improved version of complementary judgement matrix was obtained with certain modification of the scaling rules mentioned above. The complementary judgement matrix is compatible with Chinese language to a great degree, and its solutions correspond to reciprocal judgement matrices. Moreover, the improved scaling rules give it the merit that it can achieve better accuracy in all conditions.
