Most researchers on manufacturing lot sizing have ignored setup times and instead concentrated only on setup cost. This article discusses some of the complications of explicitly including setup time in a lot-sizing algorithm and includes observations of problem characteristics which appear to have the most significant effect on problem difficulty.
