Production planning and master scheduling with spreadsheets

The authors discuss how a spreadsheet-based planning system replaced manual planning processes, overcoming the reluctance of planning personnel to use computers. The structure for master scheduling enables decision making to be interactive and intuitive. A spreadsheet’s transparency lets the interactive planning process involve individuals from all relevant functional areas. The easy-to-understand logic enables the planner to become involved in the initial system development as well as its maintenance.
