Abstract:

I/O (input/output) controls can be a means of controlling manufacturing lead time. An implementation at a tool manufacturer using this procedure resulted in annual savings of $200000, reduced work in process, and halved lead times from 120 to 60 days. Customer service (percentage of order shipped on time) went from 70 to 90%.
