This note disputes several observations made by James R. Evans’ article, ‘An Efficient Implementation of the Wagner-Whitin (WW) Algorithm for Dynamic Lot-Sizing,’ Journal of Operations Management, Vol. 5, No. 2, February 1985. By testing the algorithm within a micro-based manufacturing resource planning (MRP) system, the writer of this note shows that WW is still computationally burdensome compared to heuristic methods, particularly within the context of a micro-based MRP system implementation.
