Abstract:

A macro-level energy model and its application to energy planning in Portugal is presented. The study consists in modeling the energy system and its interactions with the whole economy by developing an input–output table, in which the energy sectors are disaggregated. A multiple objective linear programming model is then developed by using the coefficients in the input–output table. The multiple objective linear programming model is aimed at assisting planners and decision makers to study, in an interactive way, alternative policies.
