Abstract:

A whist tournament Wh(v) is said to have the three-person property if any two games in the tournament do not have three common players. We denote such a design as 3PWh(v). In this paper, we show that the necessary conditions for the existence of 3PWh(v) are also sufficient whenever v>472. We also show that there are at most 38 possible exceptions below this bound.
