Holding engineering spare parts is often crucial for a sound maintenance policy. But deciding the appropriate levels of stock may become difficult if historical data on demand is scarce, as it tends to happen with very slow movers; then, conventional forecasting and inventory control methods do not apply. The present paper follows a Markovian approach to deal with this problem and produces a standard table to help make decisions on maximum stock levels.
