This paper presents methods of analysis and modeling, as well as simulation for machine tool feed drive systems. Included in this study are the mechanical transmission elements comprising the axis motor and the power train of a machine tool, which are represented by means of block diagrams. A comparison between the linear and non-linear models is presented, and based on these results it is shown that the effect of the non-linearities in the representation is significant. The simulation is used to investigate performance variations following parameter adjustments and setting changes.
