The management information systems research landscape: A reflection of economic and sociological traditions

Our research defines three dominant research paradigms of Management Information Systems (MIS): the organizational, strategic and the behavioristic paradigm. We show that they have developed in six different groups of mostly Angloamerican authors without being influenced by the so-called productivity paradox of information technology. Summarizing these three paradigms we find that MIS is closely related to economic and sociological research.
