Abstract:

The location within a given geographical region of a polluting or an undesirable facility whose effects do not endanger peoples' lives, at least directly, is considered. A new mathematical model that minimizes the global repulsion of the inhabitants of the region while taking into account environmental concerns which make some areas not suitable for the location of the facility is presented. To solve this non-convex problem, we have used interval analysis tools. The algorithm presented can also be used to solve many other continuous location problems. Computational experience is reported.
