This paper considers both the approximation of an L-R type fuzzy number and the approximation of a monotonic operator between two L-R type fuzzy numbers. The approximation, consisting of a piecewise linear function, is computed in such a way as to minimize the maximum error between the original fuzzy number and the approximated one. To this purpose, an efficient algorithm is proposed.
