This paper gives an overview of the most attractive PROMETHEE methods for multicriteria decision aid. The first paragraph includes some general comments on multicriteria problems. It is clearly shown that a multicriteria problem cannot be treated without additional information. The information requested to run PROMETHEE is particularly clear for both the decision-makers and their analysts. It consists of weights of relative importance and a preference function for each criterion. The PROMETHEE I partial ranking, the PROMETHEE II complete ranking, as well as the visual interactive modeling GAIA module are then defined and commented on. Two paragraphs are devoted to the PROMETHEE IV sensitivity analysis modules, and to PROMETHEE V, which allows selection of several alternatives when some constraints hold. Finally the associated PROMCALC software is commented on for a particular example.
