Abstract:

This paper describes the EC project ‘Evaluation Model for the Optimal Location for Intermodal Terminals in Europe’ (EMOLITE), awarded to the University of Antwerp-RUCA, the University of Piraeus and the Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the 4th Framework Research Programme. The objective is the development of a decision support system that will allow an integrated evaluation of potential intermodal transport terminal locations according to general and terminal-specific criteria, relevant to both private and public decision makers, while simultaneously taking into account the dynamic and continuously changing transportation market. EMOLITE should provide comprehensive strategic information to strategic decision makers in order to identify the optimal locations for the development of intermodal terminals.
