This paper investigates the main factors that determine locations of facilities of three industries relevant to a rural peripheral region. The findings are contrasted with the usual predominance of transport cost as the major factor in theoretical models. It is determined that in none of the three industries does transport cost play a major role, implying that in order to be applicable, more realistic models will have to be built.
