A technique for scheduling a family of items which share a major setup cost is presented. When one item in a family reaches its time-phased order point, a production run of all items will be scheduled. The procedure calculates the production quantities for each item so that all items reach their time-phased order points simultaneously. This balancing of the product mix tends to minimize inventory.
