Modelling a wholesale system for pharmaceutical products in the area of Castelo Branco, Portugal

In this paper we present a modelling methodology, applied to a pharmaceutical products wholesale system, that defines inventory control rules for those products. Statistical analysis and ABC analysis were carried out. Afterwards, a global classification was defined, assigning one of three classes to each product. Inventory control rules were defined to each class and some ‘historical data simulations’ were carried out to assess the adequacy of those rules. Limitations, important characteristics and developments of this methodology are also considered.
