Schedule based production

This paper presents an integrated production planning and control approach called schedule-based production (SBP). The SBP approach integrates planning and control functions of MRP/MRP II under a straightforward planning logic, in which all relevant activities are coordinated by a realistic, feasible and detailed production schedule. It is capable of rapidly producing accurate and up-to-date information necessary for decision making and action taking. In its detailed implementation, the SBP approach is in accord with the Just-in-Time principles. It is particularly applicable where production is under a job shop, make-to-order, or fluctuating demand environment.
