This presentation will focus on a specific kind of flexibility often found in modern production systems. We will present a model and a solution procedure for a specific production planning problem, the multiprocessor job-shop scheduling problem, where this flexibility plays a significant role. In our model and the proposed solution procedure the flexibility is fully integrated. Compared to traditional approaches for analyzing this kind of problem in modern production systems our integrated approach allows for stronger results to be derived.
