Operational research models in action, the result of international cooperation – a potpourri

This paper briefly presents selected results in the applications of operational research methods achieved in Yugoslavia through international cooperation, over the last decade. We have chosen five characteristic international research projects where Yugoslav OR teams successfully applied operational research methods. They are: (1) evaluation of motorway traffic control systems – Project COST 30; (2) improvements in traffic management and control in Moscow; (3) multicriteria analysis of local area networks – Project COST 11-ter; (4) operational research methods in traffic control in Beijing; and (5) expert system GRAPH. In each of these projects sophisticated and not at all routine operational research methods were used.
