This article explores a new application of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for comparing performances in different time periods. The DEA multilateral comparison opens up a new efficiency concept referred to as ‘Overall Time Efficiency’, which is further broken down into four efficiency concepts in this study: overall efficiency, price efficiency, scale efficiency and time efficiency. A new DEA approach is also proposed to empirically measure these new efficiency concepts. Two data sets are used for illustrating such DEA applications to production analysis in different time periods.
