Quadratic assignment problems have many interesting applications in practice, but they are quite difficult to solve. The purpose of this paper is to review relevant results both in the area of applications and solution methodologies. Particular emphasis is given to reviewing lower bounds, sequential and parallel branch and bound schemes which seem to be very promising areas for further investigation.
