The authors present a new regularity condition for variational inequalities. This condition is best expressed geometrically, and facilitates the local convergence analysis of iterative schemes. They give equivalent formulation of the variational inequality problem, and regularity conditions attached to them, in particular the strong regularity condition of Robinson and the standard strict complementarity condition. The authors establish relations between those conditions, by the means of examples and counterexamples.
