Abstract:

The Federal Aviation Administration is responsible for administering the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. The primary purposes of the ATC system are the preventing of collisions, and expediting and maintaining of an orderly flow of air traffic while recognizing the varying requirements of any National Airspace System user. Nationwide management of air traffic flow can be aided by using simulation and mathematical models to estimate and track measures of performance of interest. In this paper, a queueing based methodology is proposed to analyze airports' operations during high and low traffic intensity conditions.
