An entire array of different traffic and transportation parameters are clearly characterized by uncertainty, subjectivity, imprecision and ambiguity. Thus, in the mathematical modeling phase of traffic and transportation processes whose individual parameters are uncertain, ambiguous or subjectively estimated, mathematical methods must be used that are able to satisfactorily deal with uncertainty, ambiguity and subjectivity. Fuzzy set theory is a very convenient mathematical device for treating uncertainty, subjectivity, ambiguity and indetermination. The purpose of this paper is to point out the possibility of using fuzzy set theory in solving complex traffic and transportation problems. Classification and analysis of up-to-date results in applying fuzzy set theory in modeling complex traffic and transportation processes are given in this paper.
