Engineering applications of operations research

The need for operations research techniques is often felt in engineering design. While engineering design and operations research methods have developed considerably over the years, little attention has been given to the interaction of the two disciplines. This article aims to inform operations researchers of several distinct engineering design problems and to inform design engineers of the value of using operations research techniques in engineering design. It is impossible to cover in a single article the entire spectrum of engineering applications of operations research. The applications covered in this article could be considered only as samples from a much larger body of applications.
