This paper takes standard dictionary definitions of the words: facts, tools, skills, techniques, knowledge, creativity, wisdom, analysis, research, synthesis, design, and implementation and examine the role they play as concepts in the teaching and in doing of OR/MS. Specifically, the paper reviews the relative emphasis placed on these concepts by OR/MS professors respectively; in the textbooks they write, in their classroom teaching, and in the research they publish. Lastly, it considers the role, vis-a-vis each other, that these concepts play in the practice of OR/MS.
