This paper presents the results of a simulation model developed to analyze just-in-time production systems. The simulation model is used to carry out different experiments to answer several questions related to the performance of JIT systems. The experiments deal with the effects of random processing times, numbers of kanbans between stations, variability in demand, line length and kanban operating policies on system performance measures, such as throughput rate, work-in-process inventory and station utilizations.
